“Art for a Cause” Auction Supports Lyme Disease Awareness & Education

Bonnie Porter is an artist and designer who runs Newtown Art for Kids in Bucks County, PA. Each year, her group holds an “Art for a Cause” themed show at Countryside Gallery in Newtown, PA.

Last year, Bonnie’s students created a painting that was sold via a silent auction, as well as student artwork on notecards and posters, and raised a total of $800 for PA Lyme.

This year, 29 talented students worked on two collaborative paintings to put in the silent auction, again in support of PA Lyme. This year’s “Camelback Bridge over Delaware Canal” 14” x 18” acrylic on canvas and “Limes for Lyme” 12” x 16” acrylic on canvas. Each have a tiny green Lyme awareness ribbon hidden in the artwork.  In addition, prints and note cards featuring the group’s previous collaborative paintings “Springtime at Tyler Park” and “Sunset Over Schofield Ford Covered Bridge” will be on sale to benefit PaLyme.org

One student took spreading Lyme awareness one step further! He created a poster for the PA Dept of Health Lyme Art Competition, in which the winners will be announced in May.

At the gallery, Bonnie also shares PA Lyme’s brochures to support awareness and tick-bite prevention in her community.
